Discovery Day Four –Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Yellowstone

Volcano Rocks

Volcano Rocks

Seeing Yellowstone for the first time
Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Outside my hotel window are the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. Inside my room, I am writing this and feeling pretty damn happy.

It’s now, right now, sitting in Jackson, Wyoming that I feel “me.” I looked in the mirror this morning and told myself that I appreciated and approved of myself. Images of my past work experiences came back and images of past relationships came back. I forgave them and continued on, saying that I loved myself and that I appreciated myself. My eyes look tired, hard from everything I’ve done. Life on Earth is hard. I know that.

Wine Tasting Overload

The sparkling wine tasting at Domaine Carneros - Napa Valley California

The sparkling wine tasting at Domaine Carneros - Napa Valley, CA

To make it clear, I enjoy wine.

When my friends have parties, I bring a bottle from my collection. I love the feeling associated with wine tasting. I enjoy feeling that I know hidden secrets about secret gems in wine.

I have books ranging from Windows on the World Complete Wine Course: 2008 Edition by Kevin Zraly (the 2009 edition is here) to The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil.

I’ve taken wine courses from Learn About Wines (which are great when they go on sale) and been to so many wine festivals I feel like a wine snob (The Earth Day Sustainable Wine and Food Festival at the Santa Margarita Ranch is my favorite of all of them).

I’ve been to wineries in Los Olivos / Santa Ynez, Paso Robles, Napa, Sonoma, Temecula, Rutherford, Yountville, Glen Ellen and Geyserville. I know what I like.. and I definitely know what I don’t like.

But, let me be the first to say it, because it needs to be said: Wine tasting is bullshit.

House of Kabob

Rating: ★★★★☆

After trying a local Mediterranean restaurant in Los Angeles a few months ago, I’ve been craving Lebanese food ever since. Visiting a friend in Denver, she suggested House of Kabob for our New Years Eve dinner (we were going for extremely low key and delicious).

Petco

Rating: ★★★★☆

After driving with my new puppy, seeing this Petco off of I 70 was a welcomed sight. I finally had a dog to shop with. The result? Honestly, I think I would have been better off buying everything I needed somewhere else.

It was great that I could bring my puppy in and everyone fawned over her. But, the prices were not my favorite. I learned a lot about the difference between Puppy Chow, cowhides and dog treats. More importantly, Cheyenne got a little more adjusted to people and other animals.

Lena’s Groom & Board Resort

Rating: ★★★★★

Highway 84 W
Fairfield, TX 75840
(254) 739-5156

After a rather dismal phone call with rude service to Cameo, I dialed Google Information for another dog grooming option. Happily Lena’s Groom and Board Resort was second on the list. And what a difference good phone manors make!

As I was leaving with Cheyenne for Denver – well, right then – and I couldn’t arrive at my friend’s apartment with a dirty, fresh off the farm dog (plus, I would smell SUPER BAD), grooming was a priority. Did they go above and beyond to meet my needs? YES! Their regular groomer had left earlier. However, there was another person that was able to step in and give my puppy a wash, butt gland squeeze, claw trim, brush down and a snazzy puppy bandanna!
